SUMMARY
A Sensor Payload Production Engineer works to bridge the engineering and production teams, helping transition components, projects, and testing from ideation to manufacturing. Production Engineers work to develop, evaluate, and improve production processes considering engineering requirements, costing, materials, efficiency, and design constraints.
WORK LOCATION: Huntsville, AL
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
SALARY RANGE: The anticipated salary range for this role is $91,000 to $115,000 / year. This range reflects a good faith estimate based on the targeted level for the role and typical compensation benchmarks across U.S. locations. Actual compensation may vary depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications, experience, geographical location, and internal alignment.
RESPONSIBILITIESThe following job functions are a basic requirement but are not limited to and may be assigned other duties.
- Develop and evolve the manufacturing processes, ensuring quality work is done in a safe and efficient manner.
- Creation, revision, and approval of production documentation such as travelers, assembly procedures, and test procedures.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts through a Kaizen approach liaising with engineering to develop plans that improve production while reducing costs and labor.
- Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to technicians and engineering team members.
- Establish safety procedures and protocols that prioritize the wellbeing of others.
- Evaluate and qualify vendors, suppliers, materials, and components.
- Operation of equipment for CAM programming, tool making and prototyping as required.
- Observe and assist engineering and production teams in resolving issues.
- Communicating challenges with leadership.
The following are a non-exhaustive list of qualifications for the position:
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related technical field
- Minimum of 2 years work experience in manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Direct experience with shop equipment, such as 3D Printers, tooling, and hand tools
- Preparing and presenting technical presentations to leadership
- Knowledge with wire harness manufacturing processes (soldering, terminating, tooling)
- Experience using Kaizen (continuous improvement), A3 (problem solving), Poka Yoke (error proofing) techniques for process improvement.
- Understanding of ERP systems and implementation challenges.
- Strong people and communication skills, willing to work with others
- Proven leadership and mentoring skills
- Ability to work from engineering specifications, manuals, drawings, established procedures, verbal and written instructions
- Ability to draft, read, and interpret technical drawings
- Ability to perform data analytics and visualization (Power
BI). - Ability to utilize CAD software (Solid Works preferred)

WORK ENVIRONMENT ANDPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The work environment may involve a standard office setting while also incorporating elements of a production area. Employees will use standard office equipment, including computers, and must demonstrate stamina to sit or stand while maintaining attention to detail despite potential interruptions. The role may require occasional activities such as walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and bending. Vision is necessary for reading printed materials and a computer screen, while hearing and speech are essential for effective communication both in person and over the telephone.
Additionally, the position may necessitate travel by air or automobile. Employees may be required to use personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coats, to ensure safety in the production environment. Employees may be able to lift up to 30 pounds as needed.
