Principal Manufacturing Engineer - Facility Activation

About the Opportunity

Leidos is seeking a talented Principal Manufacturing Engineer (ME) to join a diverse team crafting unique manufacturing solutions for evolving defense programs. The role supports a critical air defense program by leading concept development, planning, budgeting, and activation of a production facility.

• Establish the concept of operations for the facility.
• Determine work content and program timing for transfer of work to the facility.
• Partner with Corporate Facilities to establish, monitor, and manage the non-recurring construction schedule.
• Develop the production floor layout and associated material flow.
• Develop equipment/tooling requirements and partner with Manufacturing to develop associated budgets, spend plans, and acquisition schedules.
• Lead planning and execution of production readiness gate reviews.
• Partner with local representatives where facility will be located – on site activation, staffing plans, and local community engagement.

• BS in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline with a minimum of 8 years of experience, OR Masters in technical or business discipline with a minimum of 6 years of experience.
• Demonstrated technical experience in creating manufacturing plans including work location determination, equipment requirements, process definition, work area layout, tooling requirements, takt time evaluation, and capacity planning.
• Prior experience managing complex projects to include scope baselining, budgeting, scheduling, and performance monitoring/reporting.
• Resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to Huntsville – North Alabama, AL area.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance OR meet eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.

• Prior experience developing site manufacturing plans for either a greenfield or brownfield site.
• Prior experience supporting the activation of a greenfield or brownfield site.
• Experience building and leading a team of manufacturing engineers.
• Demonstrated expertise in Lean principles, manufacturing metrics, and continuous improvement.
• Familiarity with Deltek Costpoint accounting software is a plus.
• Familiarity with Solumina MES software is a plus.
• Familiarity with Agile or Windchill PLM software is a plus.
• Strong personnel, planning, and project management skills.
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
