Electrical Engineer (GMD Weapon System)
Full‑Time with an ESOP Contractor | Onsite in Huntsville, AL
Schedule:
9x80 (Every Other Friday Off) | Position is off‑post, not Redstone Arsenal
Electrical Engineer to support the GMD Weapon System (GWS) Hardware Engineering team's design efforts working within an Agile environment. Your core tasks will entail developing and maintaining Electrical drawings for multiple Ground Systems (GS) IPT hardware systems and their interfaces with facilities.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include performing analyses in accordance with industry and military standards, developing rack/system level drawings, maintaining drawings PLM system, evaluating hardware design efforts, scheduling, and planning required tasks, leading small teams, and writing reports to support milestone reviews. Accountability and active participation in team meetings and internal/external demos.
- Overseeing and coordinating electrical systems design
- Evaluating electrical systems, products, components, and applications by reviewing designs.
- Ensuring product quality by reviewing electrical designs and validating that current standards are applied.
- Supporting the delivery of Electrical Systems design Technical Data Packages, as‑built TDPs, PDPs, interface models, and additional design artifacts.
- Supporting structured trade studies to evaluate alternative design solutions to resolve technical issues.
- Developing presenting design change requests, coordinating with impacted internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring configuration control of the technical baseline.
- Identifying risks and opportunities associated with or driven by design factors and executing handling/mitigation/capture actions to reduce risk or realize opportunities.
- Developing and maturing System designs that meet Weapon System requirements, MIL‑STD, and other applicable codes and regulations.
- Developing system level block diagram, interconnect/interconnect design and cable harness design.
- Support reviews of System Performance Specification, PIDS, HRS, and other artifacts via DOORS in a controlled classified area.
- U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
- Active Secret Clearance required
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution is required
- CAD Package such as Visio, AutoCAD, Solid Works, CREO, Siemens Capital Suites (Logic/Harness), or NX to develop technical drawings
- Experience in two or more of the following:
- Electrical/power system design
- Cable harness fabrication design
- Network communication system design
- Electrical load analysis
- Ability to review engineering specifications and schematics, translate requirements into compliant designs.
- Understanding of industry and military electrical engineering standards, technical documentation, and trade study development
- Prior experience with engineering PLM systems such as Teamcenter and MRP system such as SAP
- Must be able to work independently, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction
- Recent experience generating engineering documentation including technical drawings, specifications, technical reports, test procedures, program procedures, and CDRLs.
- Experience in one or more of the following system engineering knowledge areas:
- technical planning, requirements derivation, functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, cost and risk analysis, interface definition, system design, system integration, verification and validation, supportability, and effectiveness analyses for total systems
- Experience in Visio or Siemens Capital Suites (Logic/Harness)
- Experience with mission critical and safety critical systems, components, etc.
- Familiarity with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Core Standards: MDA‑QS‑001‑MAP, MDA‑QS‑003‑PMAP, MDA Instruction 5000.20‑INS (ETR Process)
- Familiarity with the GMD domain and GMD Launch Support Systems hardware
- Experience using DOORS and/or CAMEO
- Certification in IPC‑620 Workmanship Standards
- Experience with circuit card assembly design and schematic design tools
