Position: Dean of the College of Engineering

Overview

The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) seeks its next Dean of the College of Engineering. Reporting directly to the provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, the dean will act as the lead academic and administrative officer for the college, devising and executing strategic planning and visioning, and fostering an organizational culture that enables the recruitment and retention of talented faculty, staff, and students.

The dean will be the main spokesperson for the college, building connections internally with university leaders and alumni, and externally with industry and government officials to ensure alignment with academic and industry needs for a rapidly growing metropolitan community.

UAH is a premier research university located in Huntsville, Alabama. The campus offers a rigorous, hands-on curriculum and a breadth of degree programs across six colleges, including the College of Engineering, and features a vibrant campus life with student organizations, fraternities and sororities, and NCAA athletic teams. The university maintains strong partnerships with federal organizations on Redstone Arsenal and multiple businesses in Cummings Research Park, supporting a robust research ecosystem and experiential opportunities for students.

UAH’s College of Engineering is the largest college at the university, offering the resources of a major public research and space grant university, and providing access to Huntsville’s engineering and technology ecosystem. The college emphasizes classroom learning complemented by experiential opportunities, laboratory research, internships, and co-op placements with leading government and industry partners.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the College of Engineering as the chief academic and administrative officer, directing strategic planning and visioning to advance academic programs and the college’s mission.
  • Oversee the quality of academic programs and manage fiscal, human, and physical resources and facilities within the college.
  • Serve as the college’s primary spokesperson, developing internal and external relationships with university leaders, alumni, industry partners, and government officials.
  • Foster a collaborative organizational culture that supports recruitment, retention, and development of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Build on the college’s strengths, expand fundraising opportunities from industry and alumni, and enhance engagement with the broader community and stakeholders.
