About Our Department

The goal of the Department of Parks and Recreation is to provide opportunities for recreation to all citizens regardless of family structure, income, gender, or ethnic origin. The City of Huntsville Parks and Recreation Department has two public indoor swimming facilities. All City of Huntsville swimming facilities have certified lifeguards.

Aquatic Activities Coordinator

Position Overview

This is specialized and supervisory work in developing, implementing, and promoting a comprehensive swimming instruction and water safety program, and in supervising swimming activities and overseeing the operation and maintenance of public aquatic facilities.

Qualifications And Necessary

Special Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED and experience as a qualified lifeguard and instructor at a large public swimming pool or aquatic facility, or any combination of education, training and experience.
Certificate Requirements
  • Redcross Lifeguarding Certification (Must Obtain Within 11 months of Hire Date)
  • Redcross Water Safety Instructor Certificate
  • Certified Pool/Spa Operator Certificate
