Under the appointment of the Presiding Juvenile Court Judge, employee assists Juvenile Probation Officers with various juvenile probation and/or juvenile intake duties. Receives complaints; considers the commencement of proceedings; makes investigations, reports, and recommendations; supervises juveniles under orders of the juvenile court; makes referrals for services; and performs other duties as designated by law or as directed by the court. This position is shift work and requires schedule flexibility to include 3rd shift hours.

- Makes investigations, reports and recommendations to the Juvenile Probation Department.
- Refers to the DHR for investigations, reports and recommendations of complaints and allegations of dependency, or children in need of supervision when so specified by the policies and procedures of the court.
- Receives and examines complaints and allegations of delinquency, in need of supervision or dependency of a child for the purpose of considering the commencement of proceedings as provided by Alabama Law.
- Makes appropriate referrals to other private or public agencies of the community as needed.
- Makes predisposition studies and submits reports and recommendations to the court as required by Alabama law.
- Performs such other functions as are designated by Alabama law or as directed by the court.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Two years of college with an emphasis of study in criminal justice, psychology, social work, criminology or public administration is preferred.
- Prior work experience is also preferred.
- Prior related work experience is also preferred.
- Considerable knowledge of the juvenile justice system, especially as it relates to juvenile delinquency and children in need of supervision matters.
- Knowledge of community resources providing services to children and families.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with children and their families, and with agencies serving children in the community.
- Ability to communicate well both orally and in writing.
- Ability to use a typewriter and computer.
- Some knowledge of human development and child and adolescent psychology.
- Some understanding of a variety of cultural, ethnic, and racial populations.
- Ability to work independently and to make sound judgments.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and possession of valid driver's license.
