summary
hbe processes involve automated and manual nondestructive inspection of products using ut, pt and et primarily in the cold draw, plate and chip shop departments. The position is responsible for ensuring that the ndt department procedures and processes meet the quality standards of hbe’s quality system, all customer requirements, and nadcap standards. This role has the responsibility for the nde level iii functions of a technical nature e.g. Training, examination and certification of personnel, procedure preparation, customer audits and nde spec reviews for nde requirements on order inquiries.
essentialfunctions
- achieve and maintain nadcap ndt accreditation. This position is the focal point for nadcap ndt at huntington.
- lead the preparation of checklists, gap analysis, completion of gap-closure actions.
- review and update / develop procedures to meet nadcap ndt>
- review and address equipment needs to meet nadcap ndt standards.
- train level i and level ii operators to nadcap ndt standards.
- carry out pre-audit observations.
- coordinate nadcap audit scheduling / logistics.
- lead nadcap audit and post-audit actions.
- participate in nadcap meetings as needed.
- continuous improvement: implement best-in-class ultrasonic inspection technology for robust quality control and productivity of the ultrasonic inspection processes.
- lead the development, revision, distribution, training and application of nde equipment and methods for smc products as required.
- provide nde technical expertise to smc product engineering, r&d personnel and customers as required.
- accomplishes all tasks as appropriate.
education and experience
- minimum five years as a nas 410 responsible level iii preferred.
- 5 – 10 years’ experience in nde area preferred.
- nde level iii certified in immersion ultrasonic testing and liquid penetrant testing required.
- knowledge of ultrasonic testing theory, customer specifications and industry standards (aerospace, defense, oil & gas), ultrasonic testing equipment and systems, sonic indication evaluation and laboratory evaluation of defects
- nde level iii certified in contact ultrasonic testing preferred.
- bs in engineering and/or science degree is preferred.
- knowledge of nadcap ultrasonic / prior experience highly desirable
- good verbal and written communication skills.
- be able to read, interpret and evaluate customer requirements in regards to standards, specifications and related documentation.
- must be able to teach, train and supervise all levels of nde technicians.
- familiarity and comfort with software systems relevant to the nde field.

physcal demands – frequently moves about the production facilities. Must be able to detect unsafe conditions from long distances.
work environment – the physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required the use of personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials.
