WORK SHIFT: First Shift (United States of America)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Process Cost Accountant reports to the Operations Controller, overseeing and managing the cost accounting functions, analyzing and evaluating manufacturing costs, performing cost variance analysis, monitoring inventory levels, and ensuring accurate product costing. This role performs a broad range of accounting activities and analyzes large data files to inform decisions and recommendations for manufacturing operations, presentations, and reports, applying GAAP principles in general accounting activities and performing financial analysis on accounting data.

This role may also be involved in budgeting, forecasting, and providing financial guidance to manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities
  • Plans, collects, and analyzes data such as raw material purchases, labor and overhead to determine costs of business activities
  • Analyzes changes in product design, such as raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided, to determine effects on cost
  • Analyzes actual manufacturing costs and prepares periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs; identifies drivers of variances
  • Works closely with MFG & Operation managers from multiple plants/departments to provide support and guidance as it relates to inventories, costing and financial analysis
  • Records cost information for use in controlling expenditures
  • Prepares estimates for new and proposed product costs, including special orders
  • Provides management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services
  • Maintains cost accounting system and its integrity in multiple databases, including BOMs and standard costs; updates cost as appropriate
  • Generates inventory based on FIFO calculations and determines its financial impact
  • Calculates ROI for proposed projects and updates actual performance
  • Supports the MOS (Management Operating System) through data generation and/or review of MFG results; provides financial leadership and makes recommendations to improve profitability
  • Adapts to a fast-paced plant environment while independently managing multiple priorities
  • Performs month-end close of the General Ledger
  • Reconciles inventories
  • Conducts physical inventories and monitors cycle count program
  • Establishes individual goals and action plans to improve job function and department performance
  • Completes various journal entries at month end including accruals, true-ups, and adjustments to operational expenses and inventory
  • Performs account reconciliations on GL accounts such as material usage variance, scrap expense, and other manufacturing expense accounts
  • Trains, supports and backs up other cost accounting team members on essential tasks
  • Participates in process improvement
  • Assists in accounting system upgrades or improvements
  • Maintains reliable and consistent attendance and flexibility for schedule changes
  • Executes essential duties satisfactorily to perform the job successfully
  • Follows safety procedures, wears PPE as needed, attends safety meetings, and reports safety issues
  • Performs effectively as a team member, communicates status of work/projects, and treats others with respect
  • Takes ownership of own work and behavior, encourages solutions, and communicates status
  • Follows department quality standards and raises concerns to management
  • Understands department KPIs and contributes to goals individually and as a team
  • Other duties as needed or required

  • Assist with other functions as needed in the accounting department

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year accredited college or university
  • Advanced level in Excel and other MS applications
  • Experience working with business enterprise packages
