Position OverviewThe Assistant Aquatics Director supports the daily operations, staffing, programming, and safety of the aquatics department. This role plays a key part in supervising lifeguards and lifeguard instructors, coordinating programs, ensuring facility compliance, and maintaining excellent customer service. Additionally, the Assistant Aquatics Director is responsible for the planning, setup, and breakdown of swim meets and special events.
Essential Responsibilities- Assist the Aquatics Director in overseeing aquatic operations, staff supervision, and program management.
- Schedule and supervise lifeguards and event staff.
- Support the delivery of swim lessons, fitness classes, and recreational swim programs.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations as well as facility policies.
- Plan, coordinate, and lead setup and breakdown for swim meets and aquatic events.
- Lane line placement and removal.
- Timing system setup and troubleshooting.
- Table and equipment setup for officials and timers.
- Signage and spectator area preparation.
- Post‑event cleanup and inventory reset.
- Collaborate with coaches, volunteers, and external organizations to ensure smooth swim meet operations.
- Conduct routine safety checks, water quality testing, and facility inspections.
- Assist in training and evaluating aquatic staff through in‑service drills and certifications.
- Maintain accurate records of certifications, incident reports, inspections, and staff schedules.
- Act in the role of Aquatics Director in their absence.
- Support budget management and equipment inventory.
- Additional responsibilities as needed by the department or facility.
Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- 2+ years of experience in aquatics programming or facility operations.
- Current certifications in:
- Lifeguarding (American Red Cross or equivalent).
- CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers.
- First Aid.
- Availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and events.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Experience with swim meet or event operations.
- Lifeguard Instructor (LGI).
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO).
- Experience managing timing systems and meet software (e.g., Meet Manager, Colorado Timing).
- Willing to seasonally travel to other locations.
- Indoor and outdoor aquatic environments.
- Frequent standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and exposure to pool chemicals.
- Fast‑paced, customer‑facing environment with early morning or weekend hours during events.
