About the Role

A growing engineering firm is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of commercial HVAC systems and support the strategic development of its mechanical department. The ideal candidate brings 8-15 years of experience, strong technical expertise, proven leadership skills, and the ability to mentor junior engineers. This role is central to ensuring high‑quality engineering outcomes, client satisfaction, and internal team development.

A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.

Additional compensation is available for candidates proficient in Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection (M/P/FP).

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Project Delivery

* Lead mechanical engineering efforts for commercial building projects, including healthcare, higher education, office, lab, and mixed‑use facilities.

* Perform HVAC load calculations, system sizing, and develop system concepts and sequences of operation.

* Design air‑side and hydronic HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment layouts.

* Produce complete construction documents: drawings, details, schedules, and specifications.

* Conduct site visits, field verifications, respond to RFIs, and review submittals.

* Coordinate closely with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection teams.

People Leadership & Mentorship

* Supervise and mentor a junior engineer, providing technical guidance, redlines, and workflow structure.

* Contribute to the development of internal design standards, templates, and best‑practice workflows.

* Support the growth and professional development of the mechanical engineering team.

Project & Client Management

* Collaborate with project managers on scope, schedule, fee development, and project milestones.

* Lead mechanical discussions with clients and present technical options clearly and confidently.

* Forecast mechanical discipline staffing needs and align resources with project demands.

* Support proposal development and participate in project interviews as needed.

Required Qualifications

* Professional Engineer (PE) license (any U.S. state).

* BS in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.

* 8-15 years of experience in commercial HVAC system design.

* Ability to independently lead a mechanical discipline within project environments.

* Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and standard MEP production tools;
Bluebeam for document review.

* Strong knowledge of ASHRAE, IMC, IECC, and applicable mechanical/HVAC codes.

* Excellent communication skills and experience collaborating across multiple disciplines.

* Demonstrated experience mentoring early‑career engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

* Proficiency in Plumbing and/or Fire Protection design (eligible for higher compensation).

* Experience with TRACE 3D Plus, Carrier HAP, or similar HVAC modeling tools.

* Background in specialized sectors such as labs, healthcare, higher education, mission‑critical, or large mixed‑use projects.

* LEED AP, CEM, or commissioning‑related experience.

Tools & Technologies

* Revit (MEP), AutoCAD

* TRACE 3D Plus, Carrier HAP

* Bluebeam, Microsoft 365/Teams

Work Environment

* On‑site or hybrid work options depending on project needs.

* Occasional travel for site visits, field verifications, and client meetings.
