Overview
Assist the Recreation Manager and Recreation Assistant with the Adventure, Junior Adventure and Mini Adventure Camp Programs. General work hours may vary. Counselors need to be available Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. and may travel for overnight field trips. Counselors also must attend staff trainings and meetings before camp starts and throughout camp weeks. Training is scheduled to begin the first week of June.
Responsibilities- Assists Recreation Manager and Recreation Assistants with camp or after school programs.
- Organizes rooms and materials before participants arrive each day.
- Plans and lead snack time, group activities, and assists with homework or other activities as needed.
- Actively participates with participants, supervising their conduct, discipline and safety.
- Follows proper check in/out procedures, communicates with parents or guardians at pick up.
- Notifies supervisor of accidents, incidents, disciplinary actions, and other circumstances of concern and fills out necessary forms for documentation as needed.
- May assist with other recreation programs including overnight teen camping trips, sports practices, events, and/or childcare during adult classes.
- Works to ensure responsible safety, care, and supervision of all participants.
- Organizes, prepares, and cleans the recreation center as needed each day before and after program hours.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
General knowledge of childcare practices and techniques; general knowledge of children’s developmental and social growth expectations and needs; some knowledge of health, safety and first aid practices, methods and techniques; skill in working with children; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents;
associates and program participants.
High school diploma or GED. Or a combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, abilities, and skills to complete the essential functions and job responsibilities of this position.
This position’s physical requirements involve medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities may be required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, and/or walking.
WorkEnvironment
Work has frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. recreation center).
