Pet Smart’s Pet Associate (Retail Sales Associate) is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role also shares responsibility for store cleanliness and maintenance, and pet safety standards as well as the direct care of pets within our store.
Responsibilities- Provide the pet parent experience and outcomes in person, over the phone, at the sales register and online.
- Greet pet parents and answer questions throughout the store.
- Prepare online orders for in-store pickup and ensure a smooth pickup experience.
- Care for store-owned pets, including feeding, watering and cleaning habitats (birds, reptiles, small animals, crickets, fish).
- Maintain store cleanliness standards.
- Support weekly pricing changes and monthly promotional pricing.
- Stage and sort new product to match sales floor planners.
- Face, fill, and recover products to meet sales floor standards.
- Recommend, inform, and sell merchandise, services and live pets.
- Administer store-owned pet medications as directed by veterinarian.
- Promote events such as adoption weekends, Treats enrollment, and charity events.
- Ensure a safe environment for associates, pets, and pet parents.
- Take immediate action for sick/injured pets and transport to the veterinarian as needed.
- Assist in various areas of the store (including services) as required. Other duties may be assigned.
- Participate in the culture of Belonging and Recognition.
- Follow all Company Policies and Procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Flexibility in schedule; ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.
- Stand, walk, climb, and use hands to handle, feel, hold, write, etc.; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch; depth perception. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally team lift or move more than 100 pounds. Depth perception required.
- Occasional exposure to moving parts, wet environments with pet hair; moderate to high noise levels; exposure to live animals and handling of animals.
