The House Supervisor is responsible for providing oversight of the facility to lead the staff in the absence of the upper management staff. Educate patients and family, reporting any important health history facts to the emergency physician / medical director.
Essential Functions- Create, coordinate, and monitor daily work assignments.
- Assist with transferring patients out of the facility; knowledgeable of EMTALA rules and requirements.
- Give patients and family members emotional support as necessary.
- Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors, physicians, and staff.
- Understand and maintain clinical competencies (general, age specific and drug administration).
- Utilize clinical problem solving and critical thinking, make decisions using evidence-based analytical approach.
- Plan for routine events and anticipate/prevent and manage/evaluate emergent situations.
- Adapt to unexpected changes, acclimate effectively to various work schedules to achieve high quality of care.
- Communicate company goals, expectations, updates, and/or deadlines timely.
- Make recommendations on workflow improvement as needed.
- Oversee day-to-day operation and collaborate with management to optimize team performance.
- Report employee relation issues/conflicts to management.
- Report statistics as required.
- Act as resource, give advice and instructions to employees, coach staff on assigned tasks, facilitate problem/issue resolution.
- Act as expert/super user for equipment, technical problems, and for advanced or difficult procedures.
- Use downtime efficiently, be aware of team members workload, respond positively to requests for assistance from team members throughout the facility.
- Give input/feedback to management relative to employee performance.
- Communicate with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace.
- Adhere to the company standards of business conduct, maintain established Facility/Departmental policies and procedures.
- Protect patient and family privacy rights and maintain confidentiality of patient records in accordance with policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements.
- Follow all safety rules, report all accidents promptly and correct minor safety hazards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the hospital.
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word & Vision (EMR).
- Practice nursing within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act of Texas and accepts responsibility and accountability for own actions.
- Strong attention to detail: being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
- Ability to maintain composure, keeping emotions in check, controlling anger, and avoiding aggressive behavior, even in difficult situations.
- Ability to adequately plan and implement nursing interventions and evaluate patient condition.
- Excellent, professional polished patient interaction skills and ability to practice collaborative nursing.
- Ability to respond quickly, physically and mentally when priorities and/or the patient’s condition changes.
- High stress tolerance: accepting criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations.
- Ability to adapt with flexibility, being open to change (positive or negative) and to considerable variety in the workplace.
- Ability to work independently, guiding oneself with little or no supervision, depending on oneself to get things done.
- Ability to maintain records, effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow.
- Ability to clean, maintain, and make minor adjustments to equipment.
- Associate’s degree in nursing.
- Five (5) years of experience in a supervisor capacity acute care environment.
- Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certified.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified or must be obtained within sixty (60) days of hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified or must be obtained within sixty (60) days of hire.
