About Our Atascocita Location (Harris County)

Gateway's largest facility, Atascocita is a residential correctional center focused solely on substance use treatment for court‑ordered clients. With 12 buildings and nearly 500 clients, the facility provides a structured, secure environment without armed guards. Staff work collaboratively in a team of 170, including counselors, probation officers, and support staff. The location is undergoing major renovations to become a state‑of‑the‑art treatment center.

We foster a supportive culture with team‑building activities, recognition programs, and a strong mission‑driven focus on recovery and rehabilitation.

Work Schedule: 1:30 PM - 10:00 PM, 5 days per week; may include weekends

Direct Care Monitors are responsible for
  • Monitors and observes clients, ensures their safety and well‑being, and provides motivational support and guidance to assist them in meeting therapeutic goals.
  • Reports client observations and contributes to treatment decisions concerning therapy, discipline, and privileges.
  • Monitors clients in medication self‑administration, collects urine samples from clients for laboratory screening and administers breathalyzer to clients for detection of alcohol use.
  • Supports treatment plans by scheduling and coordinating client transportation, assisting in planning client interactive events, and so forth.
  • Provide security for the medical building.
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Any and all work experience is encouraged to apply. Experience in corrections, security guard, security officer, home health aide (HHA), direct support professional (DSP), caregiver, or substance abuse counseling is a plus.
  • Must be able to respectfully interact with substance abuse clients and form a working therapeutic alliance.
  • Valid driver's license in state of residence and good driving record required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Ability to work overtime and occasional weekends.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk or move about facilities for up to two hours at a time, to monitor and interact with clients.
  • Ability to speak with others in order to exchange information and provide support.
  • Ability to proofread and check documents and files for accuracy on a regular basis.
  • Ability to respond to telephones and pages, and to hear and detect alarms and unusual noises.
Compensation
  • $18.00 per hour
  • Shift differential of an additional $.50 per hour while working the hours between 10:00pm-6:00am.
  • Gateway Foundation conducts annual reviews including merit increases.
