Townsen Memorial is hiring for a Full‑Time Certified Surgical Technologist in our Humble, Texas location.

SUMMARY

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for scrubbing in and assisting the physician for all cases. After completion of each case, the surgical technologist will be on standby for sterile technician needs which includes the following aspects of sterile processing to include decontamination, preparation, packaging, sterilization and sterile storage while adhering to department policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Works with specialty surgical instrumentation, troubleshoots problems and repairs
  • Assimilates and communicates information received from various sources that is accurate, timely and effective
  • Reviews instrumentation needs, manages inventory and stock operating par levels for stored instrumentation and emergency carts
  • Identifies and follows manufacturers instructions to sort, disassemble, decontaminate, rinse and disinfect instrumentation, flexible scopes and equipment
  • Utilizes count sheets consistently to correctly assemble, protect, wrap, containerize and/or peel pack and label instrumentation
  • Prepares carts from pick list and delivers instrumentation to as needed in the operating room
  • Makes rounds through the operating rooms consistently and confirms instrumentation needs are met
  • Facilitates room turnovers, adheres to the proper handling of garbage, linen and biohazardous materials
  • Follows manufacturers recommendations for sterilization methods and selects appropriate sterilization methods
  • Documents and verifies sterilization loads and biological tests properly to determine the efficacy of the sterilization process
  • Records utilisation of instrumentation tracking system
  • Handles sterile products and ensures stock is placed in the proper location
  • Identifies and inspects instruments for cleanliness and functionality
  • Assembles and prepares instrumentation for sterilization
  • Organises the workflow, problem‑solves and manages multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision
  • Participates in staff and self‑development meetings/services and provides guidance and training to other staff as needed
  • Protects patient and family privacy rights and maintains confidentiality of patient records
  • Maintains awareness of safety hazards and maintains a clean and orderly work area
  • Maintains professional competencies and certifications
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • Proficiency in sterile technique related to operating room preparation and procedures
  • Proficiency in medical and surgical technology
  • Knowledge of operating equipment and supplies
  • Leadership skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Graduate from an accredited educational program for surgical technologists
  • Certified as a Surgical Technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); or
  • Successful completion of an approved training program for surgical technology in the United States Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard) or the United States Public Health Service
  • Two (2) years of surgical technology experience in a healthcare facility
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified
