We have an exciting opportunity for a Structures and Mechanisms Engineer, ISS Sustaining to join the team with Barrios, a teammate company. The ISS Structures and Mechanisms team spans several branches within the Structural Engineering Division at NASA/JSC. Members support Structures and Fracture, Mechanisms, Loads and Dynamic, and Pressure Systems
Structures and Mechanisms Engineer, ISS Sustaining Responsibilities- Provide Subsystem Management support for needed for ISS sustaining.
- Assist in review and development of hardware, analysis, operation, hazard reviews, anomaly resolution, requirements verification, re-flight assessments, and flight acceptance testing with respect to structures and mechanisms to name a few.
- Coordinate to close technical and programmatic issues. Review and approve vehicle verification / certification tests, analysis, and their associated documentation.
- As a multidiscipline team, members are encouraged to have an overall background and working knowledge of all the areas within Structures and Mechanisms.
- Expertise is not required, but willingness to learn and coordinate across other disciplines is highly desired.
- ISS continues to support cargo and crew vehicles visiting to the ISS.
- Ideally the candidate will be outgoing and a self-starter. As time allows other duties will include USDV development and other ISS visiting vehicles.
- Candidate should be able to formulate presentations and present to boards as appropriate.

- Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and normally possess 5-10 years of related experience.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- Familiarity with NASA Standards for Structures and Mechanisms
- Previous NASA flight hardware experience
- Self-Starter with a willingness to learn
- Some background in Structures, Mechanisms, and Loads and Dynamics.

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Physical RequirementsWork may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
Equipment and MachinesStandard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
AttendanceRegular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
