Person specification Education/ Qualifications Essential criteria
  • Masters Degree (MSc) in Medical Physics, or equivalent experience
  • Corporate Membership of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM)
  • Registration as a Clinical Scientist with HCPC
  • Certificated DHSC recognition as a Medical Physics Expert in radiotherapy (this is a level 8 equivalent qualification)
Desirable criteria
  • Higher Degree (PhD in appropriate subjects)
  • Fellowship of IPEM
  • Chartered Scientist (CSci) awarded by a professional body
  • Academy of Healthcare Science (AHCS) Higher Specialist Scientist Register (HSSR) or equivalent
  • Leadership/Management qualification
Knowledge, Training & Experience Essential criteria
  • Highly advanced theoretical and practical knowledge and experience in Radiotherapy.
  • Both routine provision and operational management of a service or a significant section of a service
  • Change management leadership
  • Demonstrable practical experience as acting as a Medical Physics Expert for a radiotherapy service.
  • Project management for the Planning/implementation of new systems or technologies
Desirable criteria
  • Both routine provision and operational management of a service or significant section of a service
  • In-depth working knowledge of Quality Management Systems and similar governance tools.

  • Expert knowledge of Radiation Physics (Radiotherapy and Radiation safety) processes, systems
  • Specialist knowledge of Radiotherapy processes
  • Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems
  • Specialist knowledge of appropriate legislation, standards and guidelines
  • Shows motivation in developing new skills
  • High level of interpersonal skills Demonstrate empathy and diplomacy.

Desirable criteria
  • Expert knowledge of Radiotherapy, Radiation Safety and Imaging systems
  • Basic understanding of NHS finance systems
  • Basic understanding of NHS HR policies and procedures

  • Experience of research and clinical governance

  • Good timekeeper
  • Ability to work from both hospital sites as required to meet the demands of the service
