The Breast Surgery Department in Hull is the Breast Cancer Centre for the Humber and Yorkshire Coast Cancer Network.
The department is based in a modern purpose built unit at the Castle Hill Hospital (CHH) site and is one of the busiest in the country, diagnosing and treating over 500 new breast cancers per year. Within this unit all symptomatic and screening patients are assessed on a multidisciplinary basis. Incorporating radiology, a multidisciplinary team meeting room and office space, all in‑patient facilities are based on the Castle Hill site.
Mainduties of the job
As an employee of the Trust the post‑holder will work in close co‑operation with, and support, other clinical, medical, professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients.
The successful candidate will join a hardworking and forward‑thinking clinical team led by Mr Brendan Wooler. The role offers a wide range of opportunities, including outpatient clinic and theatre (inpatient and day‑case) work across a Monday – Friday timetable, as well as MDT participation.

Person Specification Professional Registration- Full Registration with the GMC
- Valid ALS certificate
- Postgraduate qualification in Education or significant experience in postgraduate training
- Experience of a modern breast surgery unit in the NHS, including one‑stop clinics and MDT.
- Ability to offer sound clinical opinion on a range of acute medical conditions.
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
- Ability to manage and lead medical/surgical teams.
- Ability to lead on smooth and efficient running of the unit.
- Ability to organise, prioritise and manage a high‑intensity workload.
- Ability to develop, present and ope rationalise coherent ideas for service development/delivery.
- Experience of supervising junior medical staff.
- Commitment to formal and informal teaching of medical staff, AHPs and medical students.
- Evidence of participation in audit.
- Ability to extrapolate clinical research evidence to care for individual patients.
- Evidence of having conducted a practice‑changing audit.
- Experience of teaching/training in clinical courses such as the IMPACT Course, Faculty, ALS Instructor, ALERT Instructor.
- Original peer‑reviewed research publications.
- Ability to work flexibly in a changing health service.
- Excellent manner with patients, being sensitive to their needs and fears.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other health professionals and adjust style as appropriate.
- Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional and national levels.
- Ability to communicate effectively with external agencies and other disciplines.
