Salary: $22/hr
Dream of Wild Health (DWH) is celebrating 28 years of working to restore health and wellbeing within the Twin Cities Native American community and has recently grown to a 30-acre farm in Hugo with an office in Minneapolis.
Farm Distributions Lead (Seasonal) is responsible for distributing DWH produce at farmers markets, Indigenous Food Shares (IFS), community events, and wholesale deliveries. This role works across multiple DWH programs and supports Market Garden operations. This primary focus is ensuring successful delivery of DWH foods and customer service at the farmers market, and providing leadership in market preparation and set-up, and IFS deliveries.
They also support the Market Garden team with field work as their schedule allows, typically about 20-25 hours a week.
- Ensure safe and accurate delivery of DWH produce to IFS member pick-up locations, Four Sisters Farmers Market, wholesale and IFN network partner locations.
- Work with Farm Distribution Supervisor to ensure accurate invoicing, reports, and market deposits.
- Efficiently load and unload deliveries; ensure boxes are transported and stored properly.
- Inventory, pack, set-up, staff, and take-down for weekly farmers markets every Thursday, Jun - Oct.
- Provide exceptional customer service and create bountiful displays that attract customers.
- Operate a POS system and handle cash, cards, market tokens, checks, SNAP/EBT, and WIC.
- Build positive relationships with customers, clients, partners, chefs and other external parties.
- Support Market Garden grow-out, including harvesting, washing, processing, and packing orders.
- Support DWH program activities and community events as needed, and other duties as agreed upon.
- Strong cultural competency and commitment to working in Native communities.
- Experience with farming/gardening, farmers markets, or retail/customer service.
- Familiarity with a variety of types of produce and sustainable agriculture are pluses.
- Proficiency using Google sheets and docs or willingness to learn.
- Ability to operate a POS system and handle multiple forms of payment including coupons and vouchers and adhere to SNAP/EBT and WIC regulations. Proficiency with Square marketplace/sales is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high stimulus environment, while remaining friendly & organized.
- Ability to communicate clearly, directly, and work collaboratively with staff, partners and customers.
- Ability to engage with the community for extended periods of time.
- Must be punctual and mindful of time constraints regarding market shifts and deliveries.
Must pass a background check as this role will interact with youth. Must have a valid driver’s license because driving company vehicles is a component of this job. Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds; stand, sit, squat and kneel for 8 hour days; use hands to safely operate farm tools and equipment; work outdoors in excessive heat, rain, cold, or communicate reasonable accommodations;
ability to lift semi-heavy objects; and flexibility to work occasional weekends and/or evenings; commute to and from the Hugo farm and in the Twin Cities area.
