OverviewCamp St. Croix in Hudson, WI is hiring a Summer Camp Cook for 28‑36 hours/week during the May‑September season. The starting hourly rate is $16.75, with pay adjustments based on experience, skills and background. The compensation package includes various benefits and earned time off that vary with part‑time or full‑time status.
Job SummaryThe Cook prepares healthy and nutritious meals for participants, maintains appropriate health standards and adequate food supply levels, and may provide work direction to kitchen staff and dishwashers as needed.
Essential Functions- Prepares healthy and nutritious meals for participants and groups.
- Plays a role in menu planning to meet necessary nutrition and dietary needs.
- Maintains clean and safe kitchen work areas, stockroom, freezer, refrigerator, dining room, dish room and loading dock in accordance with state health regulations.
- Assists with purchasing and inventory of food supplies as needed.
- Provides work direction to kitchen staff and dishwashers as needed.
- Practices personal hygiene and cleanliness in handling food.
This position reports to the Food Service Manager, Executive Director, or Program Director depending on location. It regularly interacts with participants, general public, staff, and volunteers.
Qualifications Required- Minimum age of 18.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in food preparation.
- Food Safe Certification from the county Public Health Department (or ability to obtain).
- Upon hire, completion of YMCA‑provided First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of kitchen operating procedures and food handling and storage.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability and desire to work with camp staff and other young people.
- Education/training in nutrition.
- Dedication to the philosophy and mission of the YMCA programs.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Operating all necessary kitchen equipment and cleaning supplies safely (including knives, ovens, meat slicers, mixers, broilers, and chemicals).
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
