Camp Kitchen Assistant (Food Services)

Camp St. Croix in Hudson WI is seeking a short‑term Kitchen Assistant to support meal service for campers and groups. Responsibilities include helping prepare and serve nutritious meals, monitoring low inventory, setting and clearing tables, washing dishes, and maintaining clean, safe kitchen and dining areas in compliance with state health regulations. Strong hygiene and safe food‑handling practices are essential.

The salary for this position starts at $15.00 hourly. We take into consideration an individuals background and experience in determining salary; therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of other benefits and earned time off that vary depending on part‑time or full‑time status.

The Camp Kitchen Assistant assists in serving healthy and nutritious meals to camp participants and groups. The incumbent maintains appropriate health standards and adequate levels of food supplies as directed by the Cook or Kitchen Manager. The incumbent sets tables, clears tables, washes dishes and performs other cleaning as directed.

• Assists in serving healthy and nutritious meals to camp participants and groups.
• Assists in documenting and reporting when inventory quantities are low in stockroom, freezer and cooler.
• Sets tables, clears tables, washes dishes and performs other cleaning as directed.
• Maintains clean and safe kitchen work areas, stockroom, freezer, refrigerator, dining room, dish room and loading dock in accordance with State of Minnesota/ Wisconsin health regulations.
• Practices personal hygiene and cleanliness in handling food.

This position reports to the Kitchen Manager who reports to the Food Service Manager. This position may take work direction from the Cook. The incumbent interacts regularly with kitchen workers, campers, participants, volunteers, and staff.

Required:

• Effective interpersonal communication skills
• Minimum age of 14
• Incumbents aged 14 or 15 years old must possess a valid work permit if performing work in the state of WI.

Preferred:

• Prior experience working in food preparation
• Knowledge of kitchen operating procedures and food handling and storage

• Ability to lift, carry and push food carts up to 50 pounds.
• Requires ability to safely operate all necessary kitchen equipment and cleaning supplies. (The incumbent utilizes equipment which can be potentially dangerous to include knives, ovens, meat slicers, mixers, broilers, and cleaning chemicals.)
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
