Overview

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust are currently seeking applications to join the Hospital Chaplaincy Team. We are seeking experienced Healthcare Chaplains who can work autonomously across the hospital sites to ensure the provision of pastoral, spiritual and religious care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Bank Chaplains will need to be available to respond to both office hours and out‑of‑hours calls in a timely manner, and be able to travel between the acute hospital sites.
  • Respond to urgent and non‑urgent referrals for patients and their families requesting religious care and support.
  • Arrange Roman Catholic services and participate in corporate or public services as required by the Trust, including multi‑faith services and events under the guidance of the Lead Chaplain.
  • Provide prayers, sacraments and rituals for end‑of‑life care patients and families, and for parents who have experienced pregnancy loss or stillbirth.
  • Support ward staff by providing information, advice and pastoral, spiritual and religious care.
  • Provide support to relatives of patients, including those who are bereaved.
  • When appropriate, share in the provision of prayer and worship for patients, families and staff.
  • Make specialist independent judgements and provide support regarding religious and spiritual care, depending on circumstances such as end‑of‑life care.
  • Work closely with and under the guidance of the Lead Chaplain.
  • Collaborate and liaise with other members of the multi‑faith/cross‑cultural chaplaincy team.
  • Foster good relationships with patients, families, carers and other staff members.
  • Be a skilled communicator and establish and maintain relationships in challenging pastoral environments.
  • Work effectively in highly stressful situations, including when distress or verbal abuse occurs.
  • Maintain a personal and professional profile and keep accurate records of the services provided, including patient visits on electronic patient records and contribution to reports such as quarterly end‑of‑life strategy and chaplaincy annual reports.
  • Attend quarterly chaplaincy team meetings and participate in reflective practice and supervision.
  • Be available during duty hours to support relatives of patients, particularly those who are bereaved.
  • Carry out chaplaincy duties in accordance with the Chaplaincy Policy and standard operating procedures under the direction of the Lead Chaplain.
Qualifications
  • Accredited or licensed with the authority to practice as a Roman Catholic chaplain by a sponsoring faith community or belief group.
  • Experience working as a chaplain in a healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously across multiple hospital sites.
  • Strong teamwork and collaborative skills.
