At face to face interview, the applicant must be able to demonstrate specialist MSK physiotherapy skills and the ability to involve patients in decisions about their care.
We invite dynamic and enthusiastic applicants to join us at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust in a full-time (37.5 hour) specialist MSK band 6 physiotherapist post.
Our out‑patient physiotherapy team see patients referred from primary care, A&E and secondary care services across the Calderdale and Huddersfield health economy, with our services offered on a number of sites. In Calderdale we offer the full MSK pathway, including FCP, out‑patient physiotherapy and the MSK Service who work closely with orthopaedic services. Based within the acute trust or anything other community location across the Calderdale and Huddersfield Health Economy.
We are committed to supporting our specialist physiotherapy team to develop their MSK skills portfolio with protected time and support from our experienced senior clinicians.
To be eligible to apply for this role, candidates must have undergraduate or post‑graduate experience in the NHS as a physiotherapist.
- The specialist assessment and treatment of patients with a wide variety of MSK conditions.
- Determine a clinical diagnosis and develop, deliver, implement, evaluate and modify individualised treatment programmes and/or provide specialist advice.
- Ensure appropriate pathways of care and communication via liaison and referral to other agencies as required.
- Continue to develop specialist skills.
- Work autonomously within HCPC registration, Trust policies and professional practice.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive up to date records.
- Participate with and deliver education and training of physiotherapists and qualified and non‑qualified healthcare professionals, including medical staff.
- Support the Team Leader and Clinical Lead in the day to day running of the Physiotherapy Service.
- The post holder will rotate around locations within the Calderdale and Huddersfield health economy, working in lively and friendly hubs where you will have support, on an informal basis and through formal supervision, and annual appraisal.
- Due to the nature of the role the successful applicant would hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle. However, if this is not possible due to a disability defined by the Equality Act 2010 then reasonable adjustments would be considered.
- In addition to mandatory training you will have opportunities to participate in relevant in‑service training and other activities as part of continual professional development.
- To autonomously manage a clinical caseload of patients/service users at a specialist level. Using skills in assessment, shared decision making, treatment and rehabilitation strategies and motivation to address lifestyle changes.
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive and contemporaneous records.
- To use shared‑decision making to support patients to set their own goals and be confident in their approach to self‑management.
- To have specialist assessment and treatment skills which may include, but not limited to:
- Physical rehabilitation through manual therapy
- Physical rehabilitation through exercise and function
- Physical rehabilitation through pain relief which could include acupuncture, electrotherapy etc.
- Complex bio‑psychosocial assessment of patients
- Cognitive and perceptual understanding of condition/person
- Falls assessment
- Use appropriate outcome measures.
- To apply evidence‑based knowledge within the specialist clinical area acquired through experience, self‑directed learning and appropriate access to academic study at post‑graduate level.
- To act, within the MSK physiotherapy service, as a resource and provide advice for physiotherapists, other professionals and colleagues within the MDT about the assessment, treatment, management and care of service users across our pathways.
