OverviewCommunity and Environmental Support Officers (Environmental Rangers) sit within one of two departments:
Community Safety or Environmental. The roles are within the Green space Action Team focused on environmental work. These positions involve maintaining green spaces, engaging communities, and improving the quality of life across Kirklees.
- Perform light maintenance work, including removal of graffiti, overhanging vegetation, unlawful signage or littering, and small‑scale on‑street maintenance.
- Handle highways reactive work and maintain Public Rights of Ways.
- Clear fly tips across the district, search for evidence, and work closely with Enforcement Officers to facilitate prosecutions.
- Tackle personal, nuisance and environmental anti‑social behaviour to improve community quality of life.
- Engage with individuals, groups, and communities, and undertake environmental improvement work.
- Work proactively with communities to resolve potential issues before they arise.
- Experience working in a public environment with direct contact with customers and staff.
- Ability to organise and prioritise allocated tasks, work independently with minimal supervision.
- Understanding of local community issues and ability to use this knowledge to engage and support communities.
- Numeracy and literacy skills to produce and maintain records, and computer skills to produce accurate reports.
- Flexible approach to working arrangements; willingness to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weathers.
- Physical fitness to walk distances, bend, and lift; medical examination required.
- Full driving licence (4x4 or council van) and flexibility to travel to various locations.
