Morson Vital are recruiting for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to support a major rail engineering organisation delivering a large‑scale signalling modernisation programme across the Crewe region. This long‑term, multi‑phase programme forms part of a wider strategic infrastructure development spanning several control periods.
This role offers the chance to join a high‑profile programme within the rail industry, working closely with project teams, engineering, suppliers, and customer stakeholders. You will lead the commercial function across assigned work packages, ensuring effective cost control, forecasting, change management, and commercial governance.
What You Will Be Doing
* Commercial management of multiple work packages, including design, installation, testing & commissioning, materials, telecoms, electrification, power, civils, plant and professional services.
* Lead change control activities, ensuring all variations are captured, assessed, and processed correctly.
* Provide commercial and contractual support to Project Managers and Engineering leads.
* Oversee cost management, forecasting, budget control, and value reporting.
* Identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks.
* Produce accurate commercial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
* Maintain complete, auditable commercial records in line with contractual and company standards.
* Build strong relationships with engineering, project management, finance teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and customer representatives.
What You Need to Bring
* Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Contracts Administrator within a contractor-side environment.
* Background in rail, construction, engineering, or infrastructure.
* Degree-qualified or working towards a professional qualification such as RICS or ICES.
* Strong experience managing subcontract and direct labour costs.
* Confident with cost forecasting, cost-to-complete assessments, and budget control.
* Skilled in estimating variations and managing change.
* Good negotiation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Ability to work independently in a time‑critical environment.
* Solid understanding of contracts and commercial processes.
* Confident engaging at all levels, both internally and externally
