Base pay rangeSchool of Applied Sciences | Permanent | Full‑time (part‑time from 0.6 FTE upwards will be considered)
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinician to join the Department of Optometry as a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer. We are seeking to grow and expand the optometry team as part of our plans to develop optometry at Huddersfield.
The Department is part of the School of Applied Sciences, which includes the subject areas of Pharmacy and Life and Physical Sciences. Optometry enjoys purpose built and fully equipped teaching and clinical areas, part of an ~£18.2 million development in the School of Applied Sciences in 2019. The Department also hosts, unique to optometric education in the UK, the joint‑venture clinical enterprise, University Valli Opticians, where students develop key clinical skills within an operating optical business.
The Department also hosts a dedicated research centre:
Centre for Vision across the Life Span (CVLS), that includes facilities for research in visual psychophysics, accommodation and myopia, and retinal imaging and other areas.
- Deliver high‑quality education to optometry students using contemporary optometry practice.
- Contribute to our strategic ambitions.
- Collaborate with colleagues in shared teaching and learning modules.
- Support students in the University Valli Opticians clinical enterprise.
- Hold a Doctoral qualification or be willing to register within 12 months of appointment.
- Registered clinician with the GOC.
- Interest in teaching.
- Good collaborative and communication skills.
- Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or ability to obtain within 12 months of appointment.
- Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check; regular status checks may also be required.
