Educational Teaching Assistant - ARP for Physical Impairment - Newsome Academy
Kirklees Council is advertising this role on behalf of Newsome Academy.
OverviewThis post is part of the ARP for Physical Impairment within Newsome Academy, providing support for children with physical impairment, their families and local mainstream schools.
Hours: 30 Hours Per Week – Term Time plus 2 Inset Days
Location: Castle Avenue, Newsome, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, HD4 6JN
Position type: Temporary – Fixed Term until 31/08/2026
Salary: Scale 4, SCP 7-11 (FTE £26,403 – £28,142) – Actual Salary: SCP 7 - £18,361
The Additionally Resourced Provision meets the needs of children with complex physical needs within KS3 and KS4 at Newsome Academy, forming one of four strands of support.
ResponsibilitiesThe role works with teachers, support staff and professionals to support learning, welfare and transition of targeted children.
Key responsibilities include:
- Regularly contact families of children receiving support and involve them in identifying needs, setting targets and monitoring progress.
- Provide support and advice to children, families and schools to achieve positive outcomes.
- Support schools and external agencies in assessing needs and developing effective support strategies.
- Ensure successful transitions of children to the designated local school.
- Use appropriate communication and access arrangements to enable learning.
- Support implementation of effective support processes under the direction of the teacher or advanced educational teaching assistant.
Additional generic responsibilities:
- Engage children in all learning activities and help them make good progress.
- Maintain high expectations for all children.
- Manage children effectively during lessons, breaks, lunchtimes and travel.
- Prepare teaching resources that meet diverse needs.
- Use ICT to support learning activities.
- Encourage children's confidence and competence.
- Maintain and analyse records of progress, attendance and attainment.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain quality working practices with host schools and liaise with external agencies.
- Adhere consistently to ARP and school policies.
- Undertake other duties as directed by the supervisor.
Applicants must be able to carry out duties in line with academy policies, procedures, relevant legislation and the Specialist Provision Service level agreement. All posts require an enhanced DBS check.
