Job Description Summary / TWC

Summary:

Under general supervision assists to perform routine maintenance on campus grounds through support of Journeyman and / or Maintenance Electricians in the maintenance, operation, and repair of systems. Assist in the install maintain the wiring and components that keep electricity flowing throughout the university campus. Similarly, set up low-voltage wires that run computers, control systems, lighting, motors, pumps, and other electrical related systems.

Essential Duties

Summary:

  • Performs maintenance on electrical equipment as required.
  • Performs electrical repair maintenance, informing supervisor of problems and issues as they develop.
  • Inspects and tests electrical lighting, signal power circuits, and equipment of the university buildings. Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment, using suitable testing instruments.
  • Examines and tests elements of electrical systems to locate obvious faults, such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires, loose connections and worn motor bushes.
  • Replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, and other elements of electrical systems, fixtures, and appliances.
  • Estimates materials needed and records time and materials expended on assigned tasks as required. Performs other skilled electrical work as required.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.

Hiring Range:

$21.87-$33.90

Education:

High school diploma or GED required

Required Licensing/Certification:

Requires Apprentice Electrician’s License

Preferred:
  • In process to test for Journeyman’s License
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • Electrical policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Experience beyond the entry level to conduct moderately complex work. Demonstrates general competence and growing knowledge and understanding of the overall function or discipline.
  • Troubleshoot and make recommendation for electrical repair.
Skill in:
  • Detail oriented.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Strong analytical.
  • Troubleshoot.
  • Both verbal and written communication.
Ability to:
  • Work independently.
Work Experience:

Three (3) years previous electrical repair experience, including one (1) year experience in plant operations.

  • Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Moderate to heavy physical activity.
  • Prolonged standing and/or walking.
  • Work a fluctuating work schedule.
