HVAC Test Stand Technician - AM Shift

Location: Houston, TX

Schedule: Monday-Friday | 6:00 AM - 4:15 PM

Pay: $30-$35 per hour (based on experience)

Employment Type: Full-Time | Temp-to-Hire

Pay Frequency: Weekly Pay

Openwork is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated HVAC Test Stand Technician for a daytime opportunity in the Houston area. This position is ideal for experienced HVAC professionals who enjoy hands-on work, technical troubleshooting, and contributing to the performance testing of HVAC equipment.

As part of the AM shift team, you will play an important role in supporting equipment testing operations. You will work closely with supervisors and engineering teams to set up, evaluate, and document HVAC system performance while ensuring quality, safety, and operational standards are maintained.

Position Overview:

The HVAC Test Stand Technician is responsible for assisting with the setup, operation, and evaluation of HVAC equipment during testing procedures. This role requires a strong understanding of HVAC systems, the ability to interpret technical documentation, and a commitment to maintaining accurate testing records.

Technicians in this role help ensure equipment performance meets engineering specifications while supporting continuous improvement and operational efficiency.

Essential Job Duties:
  • Examine HVAC units and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, measuring instruments, and operational instructions.
  • Evaluate test performance and review findings with the supervisor.
  • Build or adapt test setups and equipment based on engineering data sheets and instructions.
  • Operate designated machines and specialized laboratory equipment used for HVAC testing.
  • Perform routine maintenance on designated testing equipment.
  • Receive instructions from supervisors and accurately report test data and observations.
  • Communicate with clients when needed during equipment testing to demonstrate or explain testing procedures.
  • Record observed or calculated data on required forms and prepare detailed data sheets and test reports.
  • Assist with planning tests, evaluating results, and providing feedback or interpretations when directed.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and best practices within testing operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support operational needs.

Skills and Abilities

:
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and sometimes high-demand environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of HVAC systems, components, and performance evaluation.
  • Ability to safely operate power tools and hand tools.
  • Experience using testing devices such as thermometers, pressure gauges, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret operation and repair manuals for HVAC systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
  • Ability to follow technical instructions and procedures carefully.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and interact with customers when required.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Vocational or technical training, HVAC certification program, or apprenticeship strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on HVAC experience required.
  • EPA certification preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and move materials or equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks throughout the shift.
  • Comfortable working around mechanical equipment and testing machinery.
