Position: General Maintenance Mechanic B (SS)

Basic Function Performs maintenance and repair functions at all METRO Properties, including but not limited to Rail Stations, Park & Rides, Transit Centers, Medians, Track Way and all attached amenities to those facilities (including platforms, shelters, bus stops, etc.). Performs preventive maintenance inspections and diagnoses problems. Performs general repairs to property and equipment that does not require a craft/trade license. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

  • Performs general repairs to property and equipment that does not require a craft/trade license.
  • Assists licensed mechanics with electrical, plumbing and mechanical system repairs at METRO properties.
  • Drives throughout service area and conducts visual inspections of METRO property for damage and hazardous conditions.
  • Operates air compressor, power saw, electrical generator, drill press, sander, and other power tools.
  • Repairs, replaces, installs and maintains all building structures using basic mechanic skills.
  • Performs welding, electric and acetylene, including fabrication when required at all METRO facilities.
  • Hand and spray paint building structures, equipment, trash barrels, drip trays, signs, sign stands, fences, striping facility parking lots etc.
  • Cuts weeds, bushes, branches, fills in holes and removes hazardous objects throughout METRO service area.
  • Assembles, installs, and removes signs.
  • Performs all appropriate maintenance as required to replace, repair, install or relocate bus stops.
  • Performs maintenance as required, fills potholes, spreads asphalt, concrete, crushed rock etc.
  • Repairs and maintains all METRO property fences.
  • Moves, erects machinery, storage cabinets, bins worktables, vises, benches etc.
  • Moves furniture and/or equipment in the performance of job assignment.
  • Completes all work via work orders assigned by Facility Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Creates and closes work orders in SAPUI (using Metro issued tablet or PC) daily.
  • Keeps trucks and/or work area stocked with supplies/materials for performing job assignments.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on all METRO owned tools, equipment and vehicles, which includes air compressors and portable and stationary shop compressors.
  • Records and reports facility and equipment deficiencies to supervisor.
  • Routinely checks support vehicles for proper levels of gas, oil, water, transmission fluid, brakes and tire pressure. Change flats when required.
  • Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
  • Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education

High school diploma or GED required.

Years & Experience

Minimum two (2) years of general facility maintenance repair or construction experience.

Knowledge & Skills
  • Requires a Texas CDL Class B Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement.
  • Good verbal/written communication skills.
  • Must be able to complete/fill-out written reports, records and forms.
  • Must have a complete set of hand tools, in accordance with department tools list.
  • Ability to operate any METRO support equipment.
