Join a skilled and service-driven team at Detechtion Technologies, where innovation meets industry in the field. We're seeking a hands-on, adaptable Field Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician to deliver expert field service to our oil and gas clients.
About the RoleWe are looking for a technically proficient and safety conscious Field I&E Technician to join our Automation Services team. This role is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical, instrumentation, and control systems in the field, with a strong focus on gas compression and well site automation.
You will work independently in a field environment, delivering high quality service, representing Detechtion with professionalism, and helping ensure customer equipment operates safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities- Install and commission I&E systems on oilfield equipment, including compressor panels, control systems, and SCADA
- Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical wiring, instrumentation, and communication protocols, including Modbus TCP/IP and RS 485
- Interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and panel drawings to verify proper setup and configuration
- Inspect, calibrate, and validate field instrumentation and control devices
- Support integration and deployment of Detechtion solutions at customer sites
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards, company policies, and site protocols
- Provide exceptional customer service while on site, including guidance and technical support as needed
- Complete job reports promptly and accurately, including labor hours, work completed, materials used, and outstanding issues or follow up actions
- Travel to customer locations throughout the United States
- Maintain vehicle, tools, and PPE in good working condition to support daily field readiness
- Self starter, detail oriented, organized, and thorough
- Strong critical thinking skills and a collaborative approach to resolve complex or high impact problems
- Able to communicate clearly with customers and internal teams about complex technical issues
- Fast learner with interest in learning Detechtion hardware and SCADA dashboard software
- High school diploma required, with a post secondary certificate or diploma in Electrical or Instrumentation Technology preferred
- 3 to 5 years of experience in I&E, electrical, automation, or field service, oil and gas exposure strongly preferred
- Familiarity with gas compressors, annunciators, Murphy panels, Spartan Controls, Altronic, and PLC systems is a strong asset
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills in remote field conditions
- Comfortable working in varying weather and in high risk work environments
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, and Word, SCADA exposure is an asset
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean abstract
- Ability to pass a pre employment drug and alcohol screening in accordance with industry and site requirements. Ongoing random testing may also be required based on customer site requirements
- Must have or be willing to obtain required safety certifications
- Willingness to travel to remote job sites and work extended hours when required by field conditions or project timelines
