Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Lead Diesel Technician to oversee maintenance and repair operations for our fleet of heavy-duty trucks and equipment. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on expertise in diesel engine diagnostics, strong leadership skills, and the ability to train and guide a team of mechanics while ensuring top‑quality service and compliance with safety and DOT standards.
Key Responsibilities:Lead and supervise a team of diesel technicians and shop personnel.
Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy‑duty trucks, trailers, and diesel engines.
Oversee preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.
Ensure all repairs meet company standards and safety compliance requirements.
Maintain accurate repair records, parts usage, and maintenance logs.
Coordinate with fleet management and operations on truck availability and repair priorities.
Mentor junior technicians by providing training, guidance, and performance feedback.
Conduct final inspections on completed work before units are released back into service.
Support warranty claims and vendor communication for parts and equipment.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Minimum 5+ years of diesel mechanic experience (preferably with Class 8 trucks).
ASE Certification or equivalent technical training (preferred).
Leadership or supervisory experience in a fleet or repair shop environment.
Proficiency in diagnostic tools and computerized maintenance systems.
Strong understanding of hydraulics, electrical systems, brakes, and aftertreatment systems (DEF/DPF).
Ability to interpret schematics, service manuals, and technical bulletins.
Excellent communication and team management skills.
Valid driver’s license (
CDL preferred but not required
).
