Position OverviewThe Field HVAC Controls Technician is a hands‑on, field‑based role responsible for servicing and supporting commercial HVAC control systems
. This position focuses on maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, commissioning, and programming of HVAC controls—not industrial automation.
Technicians work directly on customer sites, reviewing system diagrams, understanding how HVAC systems operate, and correcting issues in both hardware and software.
This is not a desk‑based role and is best suited for someone who enjoys working in the field and solving real‑world HVAC control issues.
Key Responsibilities- Service and maintain commercial HVAC control systems
- Troubleshoot HVAC system operation using control diagrams and system documentation
- Perform maintenance and repair on HVAC controls and related components
- Program and adjust control logic on large commercial HVAC systems
- Support commissioning activities for HVAC control systems
- Work with DDC and PLC‑based HVAC controllers (not industrial PLC environments)
- Interpret wiring diagrams and control sequences to diagnose issues
- Communicate professionally with customers while on‑site
- Work independently in the field and take ownership of assigned service work
Technicians may work with commercial HVAC control systems such as:
- ABB
- Johnson Controls FX
- Honeywell
- Other commercial HVAC controls platforms
(Specific platform experience is helpful but not required; training is provided.)
Required Qualifications- Minimum of 2 years of full‑time experience specifically with HVAC controls (commercial HVAC)
- Hands‑on experience with programming, commissioning, and/or troubleshooting HVAC control systems
- (Experience limited to wiring only will not be sufficient)
- Experience working with DDC and/or PLC‑based HVAC control systems
- Ability to read and interpret control diagrams and understand system operation
- Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record
- Comfortable working in a field‑based, customer‑facing role
- Strong problem‑solving skills
- Willingness to learn and be coached on new systems
- Comfortable admitting when you don’t know something and asking questions
- Professional, polite, and customer‑focused
- Self‑motivated and able to work independently in the field
- Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Occasional overtime or weekend work as needed
