Job DescriptionWood is recruiting experienced Certified Scaffold Journeymen for our project in Houston TX. Authorization to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship from Wood is required.
Responsibilities- The scaffold journeyman builds, positions, and dismantles scaffold structures from wood, steel frames and steel poles according to sketches, blueprints, manufacturer instructions and company standards.
- Will work with civil crew when not performing scaffold duties.
- A valid driver's license is required to operate any motorized vehicle on the client's property.
- Examines, selects and gathers materials and tools.
- Examines blueprints and specifications to determine dimensions of structure.
- Inspect base surface for obstructions.
- Loads, transports and unloads material.
- Measures boards, timbers, or plywood using a square, measuring tape and ruler, and marks cutting lines on materials using pencil and scriber.
- Saws boards and plywood panels to required sizes.
- Uses carpentry hand tools such as hammers, levels, squares, screwdrivers, adjustable wrenches, hand and power saws, drill motors and pry bars.
- Assembles scaffold containing handrails, mid rails, braces, planks and toe boards.
- Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Be capable of listening and communicating with other supervision and employees.
- Be motivated and work safely and productively.
- Understand and respond accordingly to all safety alerts, warnings, hazards, etc.
- Additional duties as required.
- 2-3 years of journeyman experience in craft.
- The employee must be able to use standard and/or metric rules to measure.
- Demonstrate ability to use whole numbers, fractions and decimals to add, subtract, multiply and divide and be able to accurately follow instructions.
- Equipment selection – determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
- Ability to calculate the amount of material needed to erect a specific scaffold from the instructions given.
- Ability to figure materials for several different designs of scaffold.
- Ability to read measuring tapes and to understand the use of levels.
- Ability to read and understand methods and procedures represented on drawings, layout work, and specifications.
- Work in a safe and productive manner.
- Be able to work at heights without fear.
