Base pay range$19.00/yr - $25.00/yr
Primary PurposeTo inspect, maintain, diagnose issues, and repairing all components of a bus to ensure its safe and reliable operation on the road, including performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and making necessary repairs to the engine, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical systems, and other critical parts of the vehicle; essentially keeping the bus in roadworthy condition.
Qualifications- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination to include vision, hearing, alcohol and drug testing and an acceptable driving record documented by a Motor Vehicle Records Check
- Working knowledge and ability to repair air and hydraulic brake systems
- Responsible for buying own tools and having all tools needed to complete a wide range of maintenance tasks - On average of approximately $15,000.00 in tools
- Possess or obtain within ninety (90) calendar days of employment a Valid Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver’s License with School Bus (S), Passenger (P) and a driving record that meets the requirements of the Texas Department of Public Safety School Bus Certification and the District
- Preferred ASE or TASBT certification: minimum three in School Bus or HD Truck. Preferences are brakes, electrical, driveline, and steering/suspension, knowledge in diesel and alternative fuel system engine repair preferred.
- High school diploma or GED CDL License
- TEA School Bus Certification Clean Driver’s License Preferred ASE or TASBT
- Analyzing technical diagrams and schematics
- Problem-solving and critical thinking to diagnose issues
- Follow detailed repair procedures Attention to detail to ensure proper repairs
- Advanced knowledge of automotive mechanics and maintenance Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repair
- 5+ years of experience as a mechanic
