The Rice University Police Department is seeking to hire highly visible and professional Security Specialists to provide dedicated security presence at the private residence of a senior university official. This role is focused on acting as a strong deterrent to unauthorized activity through vigilant monitoring, proactive engagement with the environment and consistent patrols of the property. The specialist will maintain a commanding presence, ensure the safety of the property and its occupants, and coordinate with university and local law enforcement as needed, while upholding the highest standards of discretion and integrity.

- Must be able to stand, walk, and walk up and down stairs, and occasionally lift boxes up to 20 pounds. This position will be a uniformed position, will carry an RUPD radio and will report to RUPD.

Shifts will be 12hrs. Shifts will be either 6AM-6PM or 6PM-6AM. Shifts are 3 days on, 4 days off and then 4 days on, 3 days off. There will be casual overtime.

This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in-person on the Rice University Campus during any assigned shift to include evening, nights, weekends, and holidays. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.

This role is classified as an essential position, requiring on-site presence to effectively carry out its vital functions.

$17.50/Hour Non-Exempt (hourly) positions under FLSA are eligible for overtime.

This position is a one-year, term-limited appointment, with the possibility of extension contingent upon continued funding and organizational needs.

• HS Diploma or equivalent
• No experience required

• CPR certification will be required within six months of hire (provided by RUPD)
• Must possess (or have the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire) and maintain a valid Texas driver's license with no more than three moving violations and/or at fault accidents within the past 36 months, and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) within the past three years

• Some college coursework
• One or more years of experience working in a security guard position with responsibility for routine interactions with the public and monitoring CCTV
• Comprehensive understanding of the culture of Rice University, the relationship of the University Police Department with the Rice University community, the mission of the university, and policies and procedures of the university and the department
• Ability to operate a utility vehicle in a safe manner

• The ability to stay calm under pressure and effectively handle emergencies
