Security Officer (Non-commissioned)- PART-TIME Staff Pool
Location:
Houston, Texas, System Wide – Part‑time.
Join the Houston Community College (HCC) team as a Security Officer, working to enforce college rules, traffic regulations, and to assist students and staff. This part‑time role is open to applicants with relevant experience in security or law enforcement.
Responsibilities- Patrol buildings and check entrances and exits to ensure they are locked or unlocked as needed.
- Patrol parking lots and issue college parking citations to illegally parked vehicles.
- Assist HCCS Police Officers as needed.
- Complete incident reports of a non‑criminal nature.
- Report all hazardous and dangerous conditions that may affect the safety and well‑being of students, employees and visitors.
- Provide escorts for members of the campus community.
- Provide assistance to members of the campus community including jump‑starting vehicles, unlocking vehicles, and changing flat tires.
- Provide information and assistance to visitors at college facilities.
- Guard against theft of college property.
- Ensure that hallway noise does not disrupt teaching.
- Remove problematic students from class.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required; college preferred.
Experience: 2 years of military, security officer experience or background in criminal justice careers such as police, court clerks, bailiffs, corrections officers, criminalists, etc. preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Possess a valid Texas Driver’s License (photocopy of driver’s license must accompany the application).
- Communicate effectively with a diverse population.
- Remain calm during stressful confrontational situations.
- Know basic vehicle emergency procedures—jump‑starting, changing flats, unlocking vehicles.
- Strong observation skills.
- Good problem‑solving skills.
Employee Screening: This is a security sensitive position; applicants will undergo a background check, physical and driving record check (fewer than 3 moving violations in the previous 36 months and no DUIs), and controlled substance testing. A drug and/or alcohol test is required if a conditional job offer is made.
