Security Officer Full-time/Evening
LocationHouston Methodist West Hospital, Houston, TX
OverviewAt Houston Methodist, the Security Officer position is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors by patrolling and monitoring hospital premises and personnel. The position provides assistance with personal protection, traffic control, and emergency response services. Defensive tactics approved by Houston Methodist may be employed to ensure safety.

Qualifications- High School diploma or equivalent education (GED, homeschool equivalency, partial or full post‑secondary education)
- Preferred experience in criminal justice, security, or related fields
Required
- Security Officer state license:
Non–Commissioned, obtained within one year of employment; or Level 3 Commissioned; or Personal Protection Officer Level 4 - Driver License – Texas DL, obtained within 90 days of hire
- IAHSS – Certified Security Officer (Basic/Advanced/Supervisor)
- NVCRISIS – Nonviolent Crisis Intervention or Instructor (CPI)
Preferred
- BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA)
- Ability to perform job duties safely, as assessed by ongoing competency evaluations
- Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English necessary for patient or employee safety
- Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members and co‑workers, using customer‑service focus and positive language
- Multi‑tasking and maintaining composure in stressful situations
- Strong customer‑service skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Webmail
- Informed of all Public Safety Policies and Procedures
- Knowledge of HIPAA and patient‑confidentiality compliance
- Demonstrated emergency preparedness knowledge

Service Essential Functions
- Secures premises and personnel by patrolling facilities, monitoring surveillance cameras, and monitoring access points, including the morgue area
- Responds to all radio dispatches, answers calls and complaints, accurately assesses, responds promptly, and provides appropriate assistance, making recommendations as needed for emergent situations
Quality/Safety Essential Functions
- Accurately records and generates reports on occurrences, observations, surveillance activities, and witness interviews
- Responds immediately to all emergency codes and takes appropriate action
- Maintains a safe environment by following all safety, hazardous material, emergency preparedness, and HIPAA policies and procedures
Finance Essential Functions
- Prevents loss and damage by reporting irregularities and informing violators of policy and procedures
- Utilizes and maintains HM equipment according to manufacturer specifications
- Manages resources with cost effectiveness and value creation in mind; self‑motivated to independently manage time and prioritize daily tasks, assisting coworkers as needed
Growth/Innovation Essential Functions
- Implements actions that promote a workplace safety culture and proactively prevent workplace violence
- Supports hospital and department goals, offering innovative solutions through participation in department projects
- Assumes responsibility for self‑growth and development by participating in in‑services programs and continuing education; ensures career discussions occur with appropriate management and updates the My Development Plan continuously
