Job Summary & QualificationsUnder the direction of the Security Manager or designee, the off‑duty Armed Police Officer (APO) is responsible for the protection of the facility’s assets, people and programs. The APO establishes a positive security image by being highly visible and vigilant to fire, health and safety hazards as well as criminal threats. The APO takes immediate corrective action on violations and/or deficiencies to minimize the potential for harm, maintaining a close working relationship with hospital employees to provide a safe and secure environment.
Key Responsibilities- Consult with and keep supervisors informed of activities, needs and problems in assigned areas.
- Patrol hospital buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism and intruders. Monitor conduct of visitors on hospital premises; confront unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.
- Report safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.
- Respond to inquiries for advice or assistance from hospital personnel, students and visitors; assist in intervening in physical confrontations with violent persons.
- Respond to a code for violent person assistance (Code 22 code calls).
- Participate in investigations; maintain records and prepare incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
- Secure and/or unlock offices and facilities, if needed.
- Assist in parking control and traffic flow; enforce parking regulations.
- Respond to a scene and provide necessary controls involving disaster, fires, alarms, codes or emergencies.
- Assist with the implementation of an ongoing program of orientation and ongoing training for personnel assigned to the Security Department and in other areas of the hospital as indicated.
- Maintain services in accordance with the standards established by the hospital, federal, state and local standards.
- Maintain all equipment and supplies required in the provision of departmental services in optimum operational status, recommending procurement or replacement of equipment as needed.
- Insure appropriate utilization of all supplies and equipment within the department.
- Facilitate communication between the Security Department and other hospital departments to enhance services.
- Maintain a high degree of competency in the provision of department services to provide appropriate supervision of personnel directly responsible for these services.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Security Director or Police Coordinators.
