Job Summary

Working as a member of a team under direct and indirect supervision, Security Operations Center (SOC) Specialists provide for the safety and security of the museum buildings, contents, grounds, guests and employees. Daily security assignments vary but all require a high level of awareness, diligence and customer service. A SOC Specialist is a full‑ or part‑time, non‑exempt member of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s security team.

The primary responsibility is monitoring electronic protection systems, including video surveillance systems, intrusion and fire alarm systems, building monitoring, and two‑way radio and dispatching appropriate resources.

Responsibilities
  • Monitors numerous security cameras for all security properties
  • Monitors intrusion and fire systems for all Museum properties, interacting with third‑party monitoring companies as needed
  • Monitors all access controls through the museum facilities
  • Monitors two‑way radio transmission and dispatches museum resources as needed
  • Monitors facility conditions and systems, reporting anomalies to appropriate Museum departments and personnel
  • Maintains shift records for fire and security alarms
  • Maintains a shift activity report
  • Observes works of art via electronic surveillance system to protect against damage and theft
  • Responds to emergency situations when necessary
  • May be designated as “essential personnel” and required to report to work or remain at work during inclement weather or other emergency situations
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Strong customer service mindset with ability to interact with the public to analyze situations and anticipate needs of visitors
  • Must be proficient in English, both written and verbal communications skills
  • Proficient in general business computer software
  • Must be alert and have good concentration skills
  • Excellent record of attendance and promptness
  • Excellent written communication skills (report writing)
  • Present an impeccable appearance at all times
  • Must be observant in order to detect and report unusual behavior or circumstances
  • Must be alert and able to respond quickly in an emergency
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, weekends and overtime if needed
Education and Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills with a friendly, personable manner
  • Pleasant and engaging communication style and skills
  • A neat, clean appearance
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous customer service or security experience highly preferred
  • Must have in good standing or be qualified to obtain level 2 Non‑Commissioned Security Guard license with Texas Department of Public Safety
  • Security personnel must pass a national criminal background check in order to maintain non‑commission status through the Texas Commission on Private Security
  • All applicants are required to have a valid state issued  driver licence in order to complete the application process
  • Bilingual is preferred
