The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) seeks a Security Manager to lead, oversee, and protect the institution’s galleries, assets, and visitors.
Job SummaryThe Security Manager reports to the Assistant Head of Security – Operations and provides day‑to‑day operational leadership for a team of up to 20 Security Officers. The role ensures the physical security of MFAH facilities, protects the museum’s collections, and safeguards the safety of all occupants.
Leadership Responsibilities- Provide direct leadership and mentorship to a team of up to 20 Security Officers.
- Conduct roll call, take attendance, and assign daily shifts.
- Deliver counseling, training, and performance evaluations in partnership with the AHSO.
- Write detailed incident reports, security briefings, and end‑of‑shift summaries.
- Implement museum and department policies fairly and consistently.
- Maintain a visible presence in assigned galleries to support guests and staff.
- Serve as a resource for staff on procedural questions and provide escalation as needed.
- Coordinate and supervise the daily operations of Security Officers, including scheduling, payroll, and incident reporting.
- Ensure Security Officers maintain a neat appearance and carry required equipment.
- Verify that third‑party vendors follow MFAH Security policies and apply corrective measures.
- Act as a member of the museum emergency response team and respond to inclement weather or other emergencies.
- Manage Security staffing to ensure adequate coverage at all times.
- Take charge of assigned areas during building evacuations and other emergencies.
- Strong customer service mindset and ability to interact with the public.
- Demonstrated track record of managing a diverse workforce.
- Proficient in English, both written and verbal communications.
- Ability to write clear, concise investigative reports and interview witnesses.
- Flexibility to work various shifts and special events that extend beyond the scheduled shift.
- Sound decision‑making abilities.
- Ability to obtain and maintain First Responder, CPR, and other related certifications yearly.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and basic business acumen.
- Bachelor’s degree and/or five years of related experience.
- Minimum of three years of direct supervision of a security team.
- Clear criminal background report and must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must possess a level 2 Non‑Commissioned Security Guard license with the Texas Department of Public Safety.
- Security personnel must pass a national criminal background check.
- All applicants must have a valid state‑issued driver’s license.
- Bilingual (preferred).
- Ability to stand, walk, and climb stairs for long periods.
- Accurate vision (22/20 or 20/40 with corrective lens acceptable).
- Ability to lift, push, and pull 50 lb.
- Work may be indoors or outdoors; inclement weather may be a condition.
