H&E USA Chemicals is a leading provider of specialty chemicals for the water treatment industry. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Chemist to support our production and sales teams through laboratory testing, QA/QC, and research and development activities at our Houston facility.
Position SummaryThe Chemist will be responsible for hands-on laboratory analysis, quality control testing, and R&D support for a range of inorganic and specialty chemical products. This role requires a dependable, safety-focused professional with strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine and non-routine laboratory analyses for products including Aluminum Sulfate, Poly-Aluminum Chloride (PAC 18), Sodium Bisulfate, Potassium Sulfate, Hydrochloric Acid, Sulfuric Acid, and Aluminum Chlorohydrate (ACH).
- Conduct QA/QC testing of raw materials, in-process samples, finished products, storage tanks, and shipments.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment including ICP and other analytical instruments, with proper documentation.
- Support research and development activities, including product improvement, new product development, synthesis, and performance testing.
- Compile, analyze, and interpret analytical data; prepare clear and accurate laboratory reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist with troubleshooting product, process, and equipment issues in collaboration with production and sales teams.
- Conduct literature and patent searches related to technical and product development challenges.
- Ensure all laboratory activities comply with company safety policies and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain accurate records and follow established laboratory procedures and reporting practices.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related field (required).
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on laboratory experience (preferred).
- Experience with inorganic chemicals and wet chemistry techniques.
- Familiarity with water treatment chemicals is strongly preferred.
- Experience operating analytical instruments such as ICP is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and willing to perform repetitive testing as required.
