On-Call Sales Assistant

• Increase sales through product knowledge, instigating customer contact and rapport, using selling techniques to motivate larger total dollar sales, and ensuring customer satisfaction and return
• Take special orders and route mailing requests to manager
• Keep point of sale inventory and alert manager to need for special requests and reorders
• Restock, assist in merchandising and display, and clean and straighten shelves
• Accurately close out, count money, produce sales reports, and make deposits at end of day
• Assist in training of all other bookstore and gift shop sales staff
• Act as supervisor when manager is unavailable

• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of art and art history
• Highly motivated self‑starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to perform light lifting, climb ladders, and stand for long periods

• Some college
• One or more years experience in sales
• Courses in art or art history desirable
