As a Smart Shop Exempt Department Manager, you will oversee perishable department operations such as produce, market, front end, etc. Your focus will be on leadership, operational excellence, and customer service.

• Make independent business decisions, recommend product and department strategies, hiring, promotion, discipline, and rewards.
• Manage staffing, training and scheduling for your area.
• Analyze financial performance and identify improvement opportunities.
• Lead Operational Review Team audits and findings; conduct store and department walks.
• Maintain inventory balances, DSD accounting, and product quality control.
• Create weekly schedules aligned with business needs.
• Collaborate cross‑functional to achieve store goals and brand promise.
• Ensure compliance with safety, sanitation, and pest control programs.

• Completion of H‑E‑B or JVSS Management Training Program.
• Experience in retail or operational management with multiple direct reports.
• Strong understanding of retail accounting, inventory management, and shrink control.
• Leadership skills: ownership mentality, strategic planning, adaptability.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Flexible schedule including nights.

• Lifting moderate to heavy loads, bending, pushing/pulling, kneeling, squatting.
• Standing and walking for long periods.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet/humid/dry/cold/hot conditions.

This is a fast‑paced environment with shifting priorities and multiple tasks. The work includes handling customer interactions and maintaining operational standards.
