We are seeking dynamic and motivating people to work at the Children's Museum of Houston's gift shop. The associate will be responsible for ensuring the visual appearance of the store, high standards of customer service, and accurate cash handling.

• Customer service: greeting each visitor, offering help, and completing sale transactions.
• Register operations: opening, closing, customer transactions, securing money at closing in safe.
• Freight: stocking, pricing, putting overstock in stockroom, doing a daily pull, keeping stockrooms clean and in order.
• Store appearance: dusting daily, vacuuming when needed, straightening, fronting and facing merchandise, and keeping items stocked.
• Markdowns: recording on markdown sheet, adjusting inventory in POS, tallying the cost of items.
• Café backup: helping in the café as needed (registering, running food, cleaning, taking orders)
• Count sheets: counting inventory when asked to ensure accurate level.
• Train new employees in all aspects of the gift shop.
• Turn in all paperwork nightly (sign-off sheet, packing slips, coupons, etc.)
• "Sell" to the visitor, not merely a "hi may I help you" and ignore them when they say "no, just looking".
• Year-end inventory
• Other duties as assigned/needed

High school diploma or equivalent.

• Register experience
• Frequent light lifting, 40% to 70% of the time over 5lbs. to 25lbs.
• Ability to stand for extended time
• Inside Gallery Shop conditions for the majority of work time
• Available to work late on Thursday for Free Family Night, some holidays, and weekends - a very flexible schedule.

Manual effort applied:
Light lifting over 5 lbs & up to 25 lbs - frequent (40% to 70% of time). Must be able to stand for long periods.

Inside Greater Houston Metropolitan Area:
No travel required.

Outside Greater Houston Metropolitan Area:
No travel required.
