:
The Research Associate will conduct environmental and biological research for the Environmental Institute of Houston. Assist with project design, field data collection, data entry and analysis, report compilation, and dissemination of results. Duties include maintenance and use of sampling equipment, vessel handling, leading small teams of research staff and students, and utilizing specialized data management, processing, and analysis programs.

This is a grant funded position. Continuation of the position is dependent upon future funding.

Duties- Collect environmental and biological data associated with various projects.
- Maintain, calibrate, and operate field and laboratory environmental and biological data collection instruments and equipment including vessels and vehicles.
- Lead small teams of research staff and students in the collection of environmental and biological data collection.
- Participate in and oversee data entry, quality control, and basic analysis of data and report compilation and perform related duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of scientific method, study design, and techniques for biological research.
- Knowledge of proper and safe operation and use of research equipment including vessels.
- Knowledge of University requirements and procedures (e.g. travel, purchasing, reimbursements).
- Skills in database management and data analysis programs.
- Skills in biological sampling gears/techniques (e.g. Electroshocking, netting, trapping, etc.).
- Ability to lead small teams of research staff and students in field data collection.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in sometimes remote locations.
- Ability to effectively communicate (orally and in writing) complex subjects with internal partners, colleagues, and subordinates.
