Summary:
The Department of Neurology at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a Research Assistant to assist in planning, conducting and supervising neuroscience research projects in the Laboratory of Neural Circuit Modulation. The lab focuses on uncovering fundamental discoveries about inhibitory circuits that control brain activity and developing neuromodulatory interventions to treat epilepsy.
- Design & conduct laboratory research experiments in rodent models, using approaches such as in vivo microscopy, video‑EEG recording, and immunostaining.
- Document and interpret results of experiments in an electronic lab notebook.
- Assist the Principal Investigator (Barna Dudok) in protocol and grant preparation and submission, and other administrative tasks.
- Assist with processing budgets and expense reports, and other financial documents in SAP and Concur.
- Train new lab personnel in procedures and best practices, including serving as Surgical Training Ambassador.
- Order supplies and equipment needed for rodent stereotaxic surgery, and maintain gas anesthesia equipment.
- Coordinate compliance‑related activities such as inspections and reports for chemical‑ and biosafety, IACUC, laser safety, and controlled substances.
- Manage the regular preventative maintenance of capital equipment (‑80 °C freezer, vibratome).
- Control the procurement and breeding of research animals; design and validate genotyping probes; forecast and report experimental animal needs; oversee the setup of breeding animals.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in a basic science or related field.
- At least two years of relevant experience.
- Master's degree in basic science or related field.
- Experience or strong interest in Neuroscience.
- Experience with laboratory research involving rodent models.
