Job Title: Food Safety Quality Assurance (FSQA) Specialist
Department: Food Safety Quality Assurance
Reports to: Director of Food Safety Quality Assurance
Location: West Houston, TX

Hybrid Availability: Office in Mo/Tu/Th, Remote on W/F (business calendar)
Position SummaryThe Food Safety and Quality Assurance Specialist certifies and verifies potential and current suppliers’ quality systems and processes and documents findings accordingly. The FSQA Specialist also responds to product complaints and corrective actions, conducts follow‑up audits, prepares samples for sensory analysis, and assists in product formula development.
Responsibilities- Conduct Quality Systems Audits and validate supplier-provided 3rd Party Audit Reports
- Ensure corrective actions to audit report findings are implemented and continuous
- Analyze and interpret sensory data from product cuttings
- Conduct initial plant audits of potential IMA Branded suppliers as necessary
- Conduct Bench Audits on a periodic basis for existing IMA Branded items
- Participate in product formulation development
- Receive incoming samples, maintain sample log, ensure proper storage of samples, and facilitate discard or donation of samples
- Review supplier packaging according to IMA’s Packaging Guidelines and Standards
- Ensure FDA and USDA regulations are adhered to on all IMA Branded packaging
- Maintain, enhance, and update the Product Specification Database
- Disseminate information to IMA Members as required to facilitate necessary follow-up
- Provide technical assistance/information to IMA Member Companies and customer bases
- Respond to IMA Member Company needs for product information
- Investigate product concerns and complaints of IMA Branded products, including formal documentation
- Responsible for monitoring supplier compliance in GS1 and manage data pools (e.g., Attributes)
- Conduct Product Reformulation Audits
- Develop annual and quarterly objectives to plan
- Bachelor’s Degree required – preferred Food Science, Life Science or other related Science Major
- 1 to 2 years of auditing (2nd or 3rd party) and quality control/assurance experience preferred
- Food Safety/Food Quality knowledge preferred
- Food Research & Development and product development experience preferred
- Demonstrated experience with GMPs, HACCP, SQF, ISO, BRC, USDA, FDA, State or Local Food Safety Regulations and Standards
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Detail oriented and highly intuitive
- Able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Fulfill requests and provide solutions in a timely, effective manner with a sense of urgency
- Ability to act positively and efficiently under pressure
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft-based programs
