Overview
We are searching for a Nurse Practitioner for Maternal Fetal Medicine — someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will practice in an advanced role to provide care for obstetrics and/or gynecological patients. Includes but is not limited to outpatient roles in pre-natal care, well woman, and gynecology services as well as inpatient roles. The nurse practitioner (NP) works under a delineation of clinical privileges and works collaboratively with other members of the health care team.
Practicing under established guidelines and clinical protocols, the NP assumes independent and interdependent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of treatment and procedures. As an advanced practice nurse, the NP is responsible for education, research, consultation and evaluation of clinical practice at various levels.
In this position, you will practice in an advanced practice role to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care to patients referred to the MFM service for both outpatient and inpatient care. This role includes, but is not limited to, outpatient prenatal care, antenatal testing, inpatient postpartum rounding, and contraceptive procedures.
Qualifications- Required master’s degree in Science in Nursing. For employees hired with Texas Children’s before 03/01/17, an MSN is required for NPs licensed 01/01/03 or after. For employees hired with Texas Children’s before 03/01/17, either an MSN or a certificate program is required for NPs licensed prior to 01/01/03.
- Required Licenses/Certifications
- RN license — Registered Nurse by the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact
- NP — Nurse Practitioner by the Texas Board of Nursing
- FNP — certified Family Nurse Practitioner by the Texas Board of Nursing OR WHNP-BC — certified Women’s Health Care NP by the Texas Board of Nursing
- At least 2 years of experience as an RN in Labor and Delivery and at least 2 years of NP experience in OB/GYN or Maternal Fetal Medicine; 3–5 years of experience in each area preferred.
- Daily uses advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data and manage patients’ caseload.
- Obtains a comprehensive health, developmental, and family history on patients as documented in the patient’s medical record.
- Assesses the patient’s physical status through the physical examination as documented in the patient’s medical record.
- Differentiates between normal and abnormal findings as documented in the patient’s medical record.
- Performs or recommends age-appropriate health screening procedures as documented in the patient’s medical record.
- Provides health maintenance and health promotion for women of all ages as documented in the patient’s medical record.
- Performs and evaluates diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests as documented in the patient’s medical record.
- Analyzes multiple sources of data and formulates a differential diagnosis in collaboration with physicians as demonstrated in the written documentation.
- Follows established delegation protocols to manage specific patient problems.
- Formulates a plan of care in collaboration with other health care professionals and documents the plan in the patient’s medical record.
- Evaluates patient responses to interventions and modifies the plan of care as documented.
- Demonstrates effective communication skills and works to eliminate communication barriers.
- Serves as an educational resource for the patient and family, community, and other health care professionals.
- Applies new knowledge relevant to clinical practice and maintains current professional, managerial, and/or technical knowledge and skills.
- Demonstrates NP role behaviors consistent with the development of advanced nursing practice.
- Participates in departmental Quality Improvement program annually and engages in at least one QI initiative related to patient outcomes.
