Overview
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will coordinate the care of patients in order to provide safe, effective, efficient and timely patient-centered care. The NP will assess, diagnose, prescribe medications, order lab work and/or other studies and referrals under the supervision of the university physician provider. Promote cost savings and optimal patient experience in primary care. Assist in administration duties in day-to-day clinic operations.
Duties- Perform history and physical examinations, diagnosis of primary care conditions, orders laboratory, and diagnostic tests, and prescribes medication.
- Consult with physician regarding the care of patients with complex diagnosis.
- Use clinical techniques and diagnosis tools to interpret laboratory and other test results to aid in clinical decision making.
- Competence in use of electronic medical records and information systems in providing effective documentation of patient care.
- Refer to appropriate outside clinical consultants/specialists as necessary and follow-up on the referrals.
- Educate and counsel patients regarding care, medications, laboratory results, and/or risks and benefits related to their health.
- Keep current with developments in the medical field pertinent to the NP scope of practice and college health.
- Participate in quality management and quality improvement activities based on assessment and data of patient care.
- Participate in educational and informational programs as requested and/or needed and perform additional duties as assigned.

RequirementsRequired Qualifications:
- Master of Science in Nursing, Master of Physician Assistant Studies or an equivalent master's degree.
- Five years of experience as a clinician in a school/college, medical outpatient setting, community health, acute/urgent, or emergency care setting.
- An active license as a Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant with current NCCPA certification and prescriptive authority in the state of Texas.
- American Heart Association - Basic Life Support Certificate
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a University/Higher Education Clinic.
